With the latest trend toward health and beauty from-the-inside-out approach, it only makes sense to examine moringa as a beauty tool as well. In fact, moringa serves a boost of support for healthy skin, hair and nails.
How is this so? This miracle tree is packed with antioxidants that are all fighting off pesky free radicals that stand in the way of you and beautiful, glowing skin. Let’s break it down a bit to see exactly how moringa is good for your skin.
The Power of Antioxidants
Antioxidants help fight free radicals, plain and simple. Free radicals are unstable molecules brought on by external stressors such as pollution, UV exposure and harmful substances. When these unstable molecules take action against your skin they are essentially pulling apart your healthy cells in order to stabilize themselves. As a result you will see that your skin is less likely to rejuvenate itself as nature had intended. How does that look? Think: wrinkles, freckles, sun spots and saggy skin. Yuck!
Antioxidants help serve your skin by delaying cell damage and protecting your cells from future damage. It allows your skin enough time to heal itself and regularly generate a fresh, healthy layer. With moringa’s high antioxidant content you are equipping yourself with the necessary tools to combat free radicals and reveal fresh, dewey skin.
Moringa Supports Skin’s Natural Abilities
Moringa contains a lot of vitamins and minerals but namely two stand out in the way of skin-support, including:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin E
Vitamin A is one of the most widely recognized antioxidants for healthy skin. Many beauty products use it in the way of retinol while many health food companies bottle it up as “skin support.” When you consume moringa you are consuming a healthy dose of Vitamin A. Vitamin A promotes healthy skin turnover, which is essential when combating acne and sun damage while also reducing sebaceous gland activity. When your body is deficient in Vitamin A then your skin will be dry, rough and often times scaly. In terms of beauty this is the exact opposite of what we want!
Vitamin E is one of the most powerful of all antioxidants but your body does not produce enough of it naturally. This makes it extremely important to consume it regularly in order to provide your cells with a healthy reserve to continually combat free radicals. Vitamin E is delivered to your skin through the sebaceous glands and provides a nice layer that protects your skin from UV damage. Though this is helpful it is not immediate; it can take up to seven days for the Vitamin E to make its way to your skin if you are consuming it as a supplement.
Moringa powder, when consumed regularly, is a great warrior for your skin. As we can see, it serves your skin by protecting it from destabilizing free radicals. While all that science happens behind the scenes you are able to look in the mirror at your fresh, glowing skin!
I’m excited to try moringa. I supposed I’ll just order the powder and make my own recipes. I would purchase the maringa power bars, except i am disappointed that they contain agave or tapioca syrup. This is NOT a healthy sweetener, as it spikes blood sugar as much as or more than corn syrup. Couldn’t you sweeten them with dates only or with a combination of dates and raw honey?
