Valentine’s Day often evokes red roses, boxes of heart-shaped chocolates and candle-lit dinner dates. But that’s not what many of us experience when the 14th rolls around. In our opinion, Valentine’s Day should be open to all, with a focus on loving yourself (first)!

This Valentine’s Day, we challenge you to love yourself and love the world. Here are 3 things you can do to show yourself some love today:

1) Exercise for 30 minutes.

It might not be the most fun thing to do, but exercising greatly increases the release of serotonin—the hormone that causes feelings of happiness.

2) Express love to others.

Love doesn’t have to be simply between two people. There is love throughout our lives, that we should take time to acknowledge. Take a minute to call your parents, old friend or a coworker you appreciate and acknowledge their impact. When you show love to others, your own heart will benefit.

3) Eat well.
