Having worked in the food industry for years and taken roles as a caffeine supplier (barista) and juiceologist (raw juice bar employee), I often have people coming to me for a solution to feeling tired.
In the long-term, sleeping more, eating better, exercising daily, and consuming less caffeine (caffeine is a drug with “empty energy” and there is a rebound affect after consuming caffeine where people report feeling more tired the next day) are all viable solutions. But, what should you do when you need a quick pick-me-up?
As a tea drinker, I thought a great solution would be to use black tea as a base for a moringa smoothie. Moringa powder, because of its nutrient density, can give you a burst of energy. Additionally, I added raw cacao nibs (full of antioxidants and caffeine) and maca root powder (from the Andean region and used to boost stamina and combat fatigue) for an extra boost.
INGREDIENTS
- 8 oz Your favorite Black Tea, cooled
- 1 Banana, preferably frozen
- 2 Tbsps Pumpkin Seeds, raw
- 2 Tbsps Walnuts, raw
- 1 Tbsp Moringa Powder
- 1 Tbsp Maca powder
- 1 Tbsp Raw cacao nibs
- 2-3 ice cubes (more if you prefer a thicker smoothie)
Blend all the ingredients together for 1-2 minutes and enjoy this yummy burst of energy in a glass.
