Moringa Powder: Getting the Best of the Best

So now that you’ve discovered the overwhelmingly positive benefits of moringa, you’re ready to give it a try right? If you’re considering adding moringa to your diet, you might be wondering what’s the best way to do so. If you happen to have a moringa tree growing in your backyard, awesome!  But if not, you’re probably looking at one of the two most commonly sold forms of moringa: powder or capsules. While both are beautifully packaged to deliver you a boost of antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and nutrients that you desire, powder form is clearly superior to capsule form. Let’s explore exactly why this is so.

Powerhouse Nutrition

Moringa is perhaps best known for its powerful antioxidant properties. The reason that this is so valued is that the antioxidants help fight the effects of stress, damage and disease. Free radicals from your environments—unstable molecules that result from stressors such as pollution, UV rays and even burnt food—can cause serious damage in your body if left unchecked. Our bodies have pretty impressive immune systems that naturally combat free radicals. But with the ever-expanding reach of technology and over-population it can be hard for our immune systems to keep up. This is where antioxidants turn into a sort of superhero for our bodies.

Vitamins C, A and E are abundant in moringa and with a single serving you can nearly reach the recommended intake of these vitamins for the entire day. The flavanoids present in moringa help support a healthy heart and the high protein content makes it a nutrient dense plant. In fact, the benefits of the moringa tree are almost endless! Because of the touted benefits of this miracle tree there really is no doubt that consuming moringa daily is a great investment in your health. How to consume these benefits, though, is equally important.

Powder vs. Capsules

The process of making moringa powder  begins by collecting the leaves of the moringa tree and gently drying them. After the leaves are thoroughly dried they are then pulverized into a fine powder and packaged up just for you. The only difference between this powder and the capsules is the added step of filling capsules with this dried moringa. So if they are essentially the same exact thing then what is the difference between the two? That’s where we come back to that list of benefits: the dosage in capsule form simply cannot deliver these benefits like moringa powder can.

A single gram of moringa powder can deliver twice as much protein as a serving of yogurt, four times as much vitamin A as carrots, three times as much potassium as bananas, four times as much calcium as milk and seven times as much vitamin C as oranges! A single tablespoon of moringa powder provides the daily recommendation easily and deliciously. Moringa’s bioavailability increases greatly in loose powder form, as the nutrients are condensed into a neat and accessible tablespoon. In order to consume a gram of moringa powder in capsule form, however, you would need to consume several capsules at a time, daily. This can be costly, uncomfortable, and also turn into a sort of chore. Why make moringa a chore when it can be a delicious ingredient?
